Accessorizing with jewellery can make a big impact to your outfit and really enhance your overall look. However, if you don’t have an idea on which accessories match the right time and place then, you are inevitably going to run into some issues.

When we talk about jewellery etiquette, we meant the styling and selection of jewellery whilst keeping in mind the occasion, outfit and look. This simply requires a little bit of planning before the event but is well worth it.

Having an outfit that looks the part at the right event or time of day will always be visually appealing. Want to start building your own personal collection of jewellery for different occasions? Then check out various online jewellers where you can start creating your mix of pieces that look amazing on.

Think about the occasion

When you select the jewellery you’re going to wear, the occasion you are wearing it to matters. For example, you will expect to see someone with bold, extra fancy earrings at a ball or gala but maybe not so much in a mundane office setting. So, you would want to consider how formal or informal the event you are going to is.

If it’s formal presentation such as in an office environment, subtler pieces such as classy silver stud earrings and tennis bracelets will look great. For a prom or Christmas dance, however, you can go all out with chandelier earrings or something with much more jazz.  If you are going to a club with your girls on the other hand, a set of pearls might be a little too fancy whereas statement earrings can work wonders with your look.

Know the dress code for the occasion

Once you pin down the right type of clothing you should be wearing for the particular event then you can go from there. It’s much easier to choose your jewellery when you have a clear idea of your outfit as both will naturally complement and enhance one another.

Everyday accessories

Day to day jewellery are items that you can wear any time of day and it works well. For example, watches, keepsake necklaces, and wedding bands are all examples of jewellery that can be worn on a daily basis.

Jewellery for the office

Depending on where you work, you would want to choose pieces that aren’t overly obvious and flashy. However, you still want to select items that can show off your personality. Here are some general guidelines for the office setting:

  • If you work in a traditional office, then studs are the best way forward.
  • In a more contemporary workplace, you can get a little more out of your comfort zone with some small hoops but still nothing too colourful or big.
  • In creative workspaces, you have more room for freedom and expression. Still however, you don’t want anything too statement but feel free to experiment more.
